BANGKOK --  Many studies showed that countries which have been experiencing rapid economic growth have also seen rising inequality and disparity within the country as a result of such growth. As Thailand's recent development has demonstrated, this issue needs to be addressed for economic, social, and political reasons.

To help encourage a public discourse on this topic, the World Bank, together with the Office of National Economic and Social Development Board (NESDB) and the Fiscal Policy Office (FPO), organized a seminar on "Addressing Regional Disparity: Thailand Experience and International Lessons."

This seminar was designed to raise public awareness of the need to address regional disparity in Thailand. During this seminar, Ana Ravenga (left), Director of the World Bank's Poverty Reduction and Economic Management Sector, Washington, DC, also shared with the audience similar experiences by Latin American countries, and how they tried to address this challenge.
