February 28 - March 1, 2007
: The World Bank and the Ministry of Public Health co-organized a two-day workshop on Perspectives and Challenges in Healthcare Financing at the World Bank Office, Bangkok.

The objective of this workshop was to increase public understanding of healthcare financing, and how it may be applied to the Thai context. Discussions during the workshop focused on achievements and challenges of healthcare financing, including good practices and lessons from country experiences.

This workshop was part of the Country Development Partnership in Health (CDP-H), an agreement between the Royal Thai Government and the World Bank launched in February 2007. It brought together key stakeholders in the health sector, including working-level officials from the Ministry of Public Health, Ministry of Finance, and Ministry of Labor. Also in attendance were representatives from provincial hospitals, regional health security offices, and lecturers in medicine and dentistry from public universities in Bangkok.

Health Financing Revisited: A Practitioner Guide addresses the major changes in global health and financing policy that have occurred over the past 10 years. As a result of the global focus on poverty reduction, new global health threats from HIV/AIDS, SARS, and avian influenza, and the international community's adoption of the Millennium Development Goals (MDG), global health policy has now become a development, national security, and humanitarian issue for all countries. Significant amounts of increased resources for development assistance, much of it targeted to health, have subsequently been forthcoming.
