The Country Dialogue Monitor has evolved from being an overall survey on a wide range of issues to a more focused monitoring of the key reform areas under the Country Development Partnerships, which are arrangements between the Thai Government, the World Bank, and a range of other donors and agencies to work together, funded mostly by grant money. The new format Dialogue Monitor will be produced once a year to coincide with monitoring meetings between the Government and donors.
Preface This is the fourth issue of the World Bank’s Thailand Country Dialogue Monitor.  In close consultation with Royal Thai Government agencies, the Monitor reviews and reflects on the overall implementation progress achieved in 2004 through the first half of 2005 under the Thailand-World Bank Group Partnership for Development launched in December 2002 (the Partnership).    In recent years, the relationship between Thailandand the World Bank Group has evolved toward an innovative and successful partnership and knowledge sharing. While the Bank’s financial support for traditional projects remains available, the Bank’s contribution to the National Development Agenda under the Partnership mainly consists of providing policy advice on priority medium-term structural issues under the main themes of the national development agenda: human and social capital, competitiveness, poverty and inequality, natural resources and the environment, and governance. The Partnership activities are mainly carried out through comprehensive diagnostic overviews including the Country Monitor series and other policy reviews and implementation support activities including Country Development Partnerships (CDPs) and selective IBRD, IFC and MIGA transactions.   The Country Dialogue Monitor reports good overall progress on the Partnership activities. It also identifies remaining activities and challenges which we are looking forward to addressing in close collaboration with the Royal Thai Government and other concerned development partners in order to secure and maximize the impacts of the Partnership on development in Thailand.     |
