Country Development Partnership for Social Protection (CDP-SP)

CDP-SP
Protecting the informal sector was part of the CDP-SP

The Country Development Partnership for Social Protection (CDP-SP) Improved management of social and economic risk through enhanced social protection is the main goal of the Country Development Partnership for Social Protection CDP-SP. Currently in its second phase, it is a collaborative program on policy development and technical assistance between the Government and the Bank and ASEM trust fund. The six policy areas of the CDP-SP are:

  • Social assistance
  • Unemployment insurance
  • Social protection data development
  • Workmen’s compensation
  • Occupational safety and health
  • Social protection for informal sector

CDP-SP marks a significant change in the way that the Ministry of Labour and the World Bank work together. The relationship began four years ago, during the recent economic crisis when the Ministry implemented its part of the Social Investment Project which provided short term training to the unemployed and was financed by the World Bank. Later, when longer term issues in social protection emerged from the crisis experience, the Ministry invited the Bank to collaborate on improving several core social protection services in need of better management, wider coverage, and better targeting to less fortunate Thai workers and families.
